Non-tech in Tech Partners with Empower Her Community to Upskill 1000 women via no-code Tech Programs
As the demand for tech skills and talents increases, more individuals are seeking to upskill or transition from traditional backgrounds to tech, which is why communities like Nontech in Tech set out to equip individuals with the most in-demand no-code skills, provide a community to give these individuals a soft landing into the tech ecosystem and a chance to land their first tech jobs.
One of our most recent efforts in this regard was facilitating a nontechnical Bootcamp in partnership with “Empower Her Community” - a community dedicated to the growth and progress of women in tech. Both communities seeing that our visions were aligned, decided to team up to achieve a goal: upskilling 1000 women in no-code tech skills via an 8-week Bootcamp. The learning tracks were: Community management, Growth Marketing, Digital Marketing, Product Management, Content Creation, Technical Writing, Product Marketing, UX Writing & Technical Writing
Applications for the Bootcamp opened in June, and we received over 3000 entries in about 2 weeks. After the rigorous screening and selection process, we had 1000 successful applicants across 28 countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, United States, India, Kenya, Canada, Uganda, Nigeria, Cameroon, Bénin, Tanzania, South Africa, Jamaica, Brazil, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Mozambique, United Kingdom, Philippines, Germany, Zambia, Botswana, South Sudan, Bahamas. Australia &United Arab Emirates.
The selection of the tutors; primarily sourced from within the NTIT community, was quite meticulous. Time and effort were put into handpicking the facilitators and setting up the curriculum, as we wanted to make sure the students received the best.
Speaking on the partnership, Elizabeth Okaome, Founder of Empower Her Community said “As a community that is dedicated to the growth of women across the world in the tech space, this partnership serves as a means to train more women. We also realized that most of these women do not know that there are non-technical skills in tech and many were not in the space because they believe the technical skills are not for them. NTIT grooms fellows in non-technical skills and matches them with possible job opportunities hence the partnership to empower as many women as possible in line with the vision of EHC”.
Ibraheem Agbaje, Head of Programs & Partnerships, Non-tech in Tech, also commented on this exciting partnership saying, “EHC’s focus and goal inherently align with what we stand for at Non-tech in Tech, and as a reason of this partnership, we are able to make more impact.
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." — Helen Keller
Just like Helen said, we are doing much more together, delivering value to the students, facilitators, and everyone involved.
The Bootcamp, which is currently in its fourth week, has received amazing feedback from both students & facilitators. It is exciting and fulfilling to see how much knowledge has been imparted to the students in this short period and how much impact the Bootcamp has made.
